Avril Manderson has been designing and making silver jewellery for almost 20 years. An established jewellery artist leading a team of talented silversmiths, Avril runs two other businesses, selling her handmade jewellery worldwide. She has turned her attention to one of the great loves of her life, Scottish pipe bands.
Avril piping alongside piping legend and mentor Joe McAdam in Ballynahinch Pipe Band around 1993.
Avril has a long-standing interest in pipe bands and started learning the bagpipes with Ballykeel Blackwatch Pipe Band, back in 1990. Shortly after, she joined her Grandfather's Ballynahinch Pipe Band, playing the tenor drum while learning to master the bagpipes. She was part of Ballynahinch's World Champion Grade 3 band in 1993. Avril also played in Glassdrummond and Dr Wright Memorial pipe bands before hanging up her bagpipes to concentrate on work and raising three young children. She occasionally dusts down her bagpipes for the odd Burns Night supper or other special events!
Out of her kilt and into the jewellery studio!
Following the worldwide success of her Fresh Fleeces jewellery business, Avril had the idea to produce a range of pipe band and Scottish silver jewellery. Avril believes that both her knowledge of the pipe band world and her creative approach mean she is well positioned to launch this innovative range.
Helped by a team of talented silversmiths, each piece is created by hand using the finest selection of precious metals.
