world pipe band championships, the silver piper

Back from the World Pipe Band Championships!

I was delighted to be invited to take part in the Trade Show at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow earlier this month.  Being a retired piper (at the ripe old age of 43!) it was my first time at 'The Worlds' for almost 20 years.

I travelled over the night before and was lucky enough to get last minute tickets to watch Scottish Power Pipe Band in concert at the Royal Glasgow Concert Hall.  It was an amazing show and a real spectacle of musical talent.

At the Piping Live trade show I met Pipe Band enthusiasts from across the globe.  It really is amazing how the love of pipe band music can be found in the most remote areas.  Pipers and drummers from Canada, Australia, Argentina and Germany are just a selection of people I introduced to The Silver Piper range of jewellery.  Customers from the USA, Canada and Australia bought pieces of our handmade silver pipe band jewellery back home as a fitting souvenir from Glasgow.

On the Friday I watched the entire Medley selection from Grade 1 bands at Glasgow Green.  Let's just say I'm glad I didn't have to judge!

On the Saturday I watched bands from a variety of Grades take part in an attempt to be crowned World Champions.  Many congratulations to Inverary and District Pipe Band on taking the Grade 1 crown.

And who says it always rains in Glasgow?  Maybe it was good timing but I managed to dodge all the heavy showers and even get a bit of unexpected sunburn!

I'm already looking forward to returning next year and hope to see some of you there!
